Love the penciling smoke you did for his vader scare helmet scene. I'm quite curious how you managed to retain the shape of his helmet while making the smoke whispy and 'smoky'

I used the same technique i use for doing hair, which funnily enough worked well here. I always struggle with hair. It's one thing i doubt i will ever master! ;)
Anyhow i made the basic line drawing mapping out where the smoke went and then when i did my first layer i avoided the smoke trails and just did the helmet that showed through. I then used a paper stump to blend it lightly drawing some of the graphite into the smoke trails. If i overdid it i erased using a putty rubber. Then it was a case of adding another layer to the helmet and again drawing some graphite into the smoke. This second time i only did it to specific smoke trails so that some trails would remain lighter when complete. It was then just a case of repeating the process till it was built up enough. Finally i lightly erased bits of smoke to look like a wisp was going under another and vice versa and lightly drew some graphite out using a stump from the top of the helmet to get the trails that wind up towards the drawing of Vader. I think these last trails out of the helmet helped a lot in defining the shell of it!
Hope that made sense lol and helped! ;)

Makes sense. Looks like you're on your way to becoming more than a padawan in hair! Thanks for the help and I hope to be using it for one of my little projects! I'll make sure to mention how much you've helped ;)

I'm a master at bald heads, let's just say that! ;)
Just picked up an electric eraser the other day bt Staedtler. Saw someone on the net using one of these for hair highlights. He actually used some sandpaer and gently and slowly wore the tip of the eraser down at an angle so he got a point.
I'm looking forward to using this technique too!

That sounds interesting. Would you happen to know where you saw that? Sounds like something I should invest in xD
